Robert H. “Tarzan” Fuller, Class of ‘25
Robert H. “Tarzan” Fuller was a football standout at Allegheny from 1921 through 1924, and has been selected as one of the 16 charter members of Allegheny College’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
A 1925 graduate of Allegheny with a degree in economics, Fuller is considered one of the best football players ever to play at Allegheny. A four-year letterman at center, Fuller was selected to the Pittsburgh Gazette Times All-Eastern Team, to the Campus All-Minor Eleven, and to Boston College’s All-Opponent squad.
Fuller was a member of all three football teams under the coaching of G. Herbert McCracken, who was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1972 and will also become a charter member of Allegheny’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Blue and Gold squads during Fuller’s playing days compiled a 21-10-1 mark in four years. The first three years, under McCracken, Allegheny logged 3-4-1, 6-3, and 7-1 records, respectively.
The 7-1 record in Fuller’s junior season stands as an Allegheny record for most victories in a single season. The record was originally set in 1899 and tied in 1902 and in 1913, and has since been tied in 1968 and in 1974, but has not yet been surpassed.
In Fuller’s senior season, the Blue and Gold squad tallied a 5-2 mark under Coach Thomas V. Davies
