Harold McElhaney, Athletic Director 1970-1978

Harold McElhaney came to Allegheny in 1970 to serve as Director of Athletics and Associate Professor of Physical Education.  He directed Allegheny teams to six-straight PAC All-Sports trophies, including 1973-74 when the award was given for a season which showed overall points far exceeding any PAC record.  McElhaney attributed much of the success of Allegheny’s teams to the coached, but organization is important to the success of an entire athletic program, which showed in the ever-rising attendance and support at sporting events during McElhaney’s tenure.
