David Sedmak was a two-sport star on the mat and on the gridiron. During his stellar wrestling career, he qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament all four years and was a two-time winner of the William Johnson Wrestler of the Year Award. As a senior captain, Sedmak was named the Allegheny Athlete of the Year.

On the wrestling mat, Sedmak was a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) runner-up at 190 pounds three times and placed third once. As a sophomore, Sedmak made his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships and also earned Wrestler of the Year, an achievement he would win again as a junior.

In 1980-81, Sedmak capped his wrestling career with his fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He earned the Dennis D. Andrews Memorial Wrestling Award and was named Allegheny’s top male athlete for his excellence in two sports during his career.

Playing defensive tackle for legendary coach Sam Timer, he earned All-PAC first-team accolades his junior year. As a senior captain, he led the squad in tackles and collected his second All-PAC honor on the second team. Sedmak was also crowned Allegheny’s Most Valuable Player at the end of the 1980 season.
