Jeff Mountain was one of the most decorated pitchers in Allegheny baseball history. In his final two seasons, the 2000 graduate was an All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) First Team honoree, All-Mideast Region selection and NCAC Pitcher of the Year.

During his four years as a Gator, Mountain set career records for wins (26), games started (38) and innings pitched (239 2/3). He is also second all-time with 211 strikeouts.

As a freshman, Mountain was named as one of the Gators’ Co-Rookies of the Year. His class did not disappoint; Mountain attended Allegheny during the baseball program’s winningest four-year period (139-40).

In 1999, Mountain staked his claim as the NCAC’s top pitcher, finishing with a 9-1 record, 2.15 earned-run average and 75 strikeouts. He followed up with an equally impressive senior season in which he compiled a 10-1 record. Mountain had a 2.87 ERA and 89 strikeouts, while closing out his Allegheny career.

In 2000, Mountain was the team’s ace when the Blue and Gold made their first-ever appearance at the College World Series. He went the distance eight times and fired complete games in his last six collegiate starts. Mountain went 1-0 with a save at the NCAC Tournament and then went 1-0 with a save at the Mideast Regional.

At the CWS, he pitched the Gators to a 4-2 tournament-opening win over Chapman. In Mountain’s final appearance, he suffered his only loss of the 2000 season – a 4-3 defeat at the hands of St. Thomas.
