Wise Center FAQs

What are the Wise Center/Fitness Center Hours?
Times are subject to change, hours of operation are available by clicking here. They are also posted on the front door to the building and throughout the facility.

Are the facilities open during breaks?
Generally, the Wise Center will be open with abbreviated hours during most extended breaks. Break schedules can be found by clicking here.

What can I wear to use the facilities?
Athletic attire is required to utilize any equipment in the Wise Center. Workout attire consists of: workout pants/shorts, shirt, sweats, shorts, and closed-toed athletic shoes. The following attire is prohibited: street clothing and/or business attire (suit and tie or skirt), jeans, cargo pants/shorts, sports bras, t-shirts that are offensive/graphic text, and any open-toed footwear.

Can I claim a locker in the locker room as my own?
The small lockers inside the locker rooms are reserved for those who are not on campus residents, such as faculty, staff, and student commuters. They may claim a small locker to use for the semester by contacting Jared Luteran, Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Recreation, at jluteran@allegheny.edu. Tall lockers are reserved for day use only. Anyone may lock their belongings up in a tall locker while they use the facility, but must remove the contents and lock when finished.

Can I reserve a blue court for recreational play?
We maintain a "first come – first served" policy for open recreational play. Thus reserving a court for this type of play is not allowed. The Athletics and Recreation Department has a priority list that is used for reserving court time for recognized college groups such as club sports, intramural sports, fitness classes and varsity sports. Once these groups have been assigned their court times, court time that is left over is considered open recreational time on a "first come – first served" basis.

What is the best time to use the indoor track?
The indoor track can be used any time while the building is open, except for those times it is reserved for varsity track team practice. The varsity indoor track season begins mid-October and the track is reserved for the team between the hours of 4:00 p.m. – 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. The indoor track season ends right around spring break time in March.

Are fitness classes open to anyone?
Yes. All students, faculty, staff and community members are allowed to participate at no charge.

Can I teach a fitness class?
Typically, the instructors who teach our fitness classes are students that have received certification in the class they are teaching. We are always looking for motivated and passionate individuals to teach classes. If you have or are interested in teaching a class please contact Jared Luteran, Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Recreation, at jluteran@allegheny.edu.
