Ellenberger Set For Friday's National Championship Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Allegheny College sophomore Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) is set to compete for a national title at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday afternoon.

Ellenberger qualified for nationals in the long jump after breaking the school record in the event three times during the 2025-26 indoor season. At Case Western Reserve University in December, the second-year standout won the long jump by clearing 5.62 meters. She then won the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) crown while reestablishing her record at 5.75 meters. Last weekend, Ellenberger topped the podium at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships with a personal record of 5.90 meters.

Her performance at the AARTFC Indoor Championships vaulted Ellenberger inside the top 10 nationally. She enters the NCAA Championships ranked sixth in Division III, trailing only Chloe Hein of Centre College (6.46 meters), Jillian Ambler of SUNY Geneseo (6.11 meters), Elysse Cumberland of Tufts University (5.96 meters), Chloe Selmer of Elmhurst University (5.93 meters), and Annabelle Lanik of Trinity University (Texas) (5.91 meters).

Ellenberger, the 2025-26 PAC Indoor Track and Field MVP and Field Athlete of the Year, hopes to be the first Gator woman to earn All-American status in the long jump. As a sophomore in the winter of 1993, Jody Mathews Erdos '95 punched her ticket to nationals as the 12th-ranked long jumper in the country with the former Allegheny indoor record of 5.44 meters. She narrowly missed All-America accolades; however, only the top eight were recognized at the time, whereas the NCAA recently introduced a second team to honor those who finish ninth through 16th. On the men's side, Aaron Moon '25 became the first male student-athlete to win an award in the long jump at the 2025 outdoor championships by placing 10th.

Friday's long jump is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Fans can follow along with live results by clicking here.
