SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team survived the wet weather to compete at Slippery Rock University's Dave Labor Invitational, hosted by the Rock at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5.
The Gators combined for six top-10 individual finishes across five different events, in addition to a fourth-place performance from the 4x400-meter relay team.
Allegheny's best times on the track came in the mid-distance events.
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and
Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford) placed fourth and sixth in the 1,500-meter run, respectively. Stafford was the second-fastest Division III runner in the race at 4:44.12, while Bonson logged the third-best time among D-III athletes at 4:46.04.
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) also had the third-fastest time among D-III runners in the 800-meter race at 2:19.38. Cocca, who was eighth overall out of 64 participants, shaved more than 12 seconds off her previous 800-meter time from the Ed Fry Invitational on March 22. Cocca then led off the 4x400 relay team, which competed against five other Division II programs. The Gator quartet, which included Stafford,
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), and
Shyann Rulander (Warren, Pa./Warren), had the fastest time in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) so far this spring at 4:14.12.
On Friday, senior
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) produced her best hammer throw of the season. Davis placed fifth out of 35, trailing three Division I athletes from Kent State and Penn State and one D-II thrower from PennWest California. Her best throw sailed 48.97 meters, another PAC-leading mark.
Second-year thrower
Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) earned Allegheny's top finish of the weekend in the javelin. Bawek placed third and set a new personal record at 39.31 meters, a top-20 mark nationally. She added 1.96 meters to her previous PR from the 2024 Mount Union Last Chance meet.
