SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team logged a dozen top-10 finishes and several personal records on a sunny afternoon at Slippery Rock University's John Papa Invitational on Thursday.
The Gators didn't win any events at Slippery Rock but posted one runner-up, two third-place, and a trio of fourth-place finishes.Â
Senior
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) once again led the way for the Blue and Gold, placing no worse than six in any of his three events. In only his second attempt at the 400-meter hurdles and his first since transferring to Allegheny, Moon set a new personal record with the second-best time in program history. He placed third at 56.25 seconds, becoming only the second Gator to score a sub-58-second time. Moon also finished fourth in the long jump (7.01 meters) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (10.97 seconds).
In the 1,500-meter run, junior
Cole Jooste (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) added a PR en route to a bronze finish. His time of 4:00.57 was nearly two-and-a-half seconds better than his previous best from the 2023 Westminster Invitational and more than six seconds quicker than last week's meet at Westminster College.
Fellow junior
Caleb Freeman (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) established a new PR in the 5,000-meter run for the second consecutive week. Freeman, who was second behind Troy Hart from Division II Slippery Rock, crossed the finish line in 15:44.29, nearly a half-second quicker than last week's performance at Westminster.
Sophomores
Austin Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic), who placed fourth in the 400-meter dash, and
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area), who was fifth in the pole vault, both added season-best marks in their respective events. Stewart sprinted to a time of 49.54 seconds while Miller cleared 4.48 meters. Both marks rank second in the PAC so far this season.
