SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Despite thunderstorms that covered much of western Pennsylvania throughout the day, the Allegheny College men's track and field team earned eight personal records while competing at Slippery Rock University's John Papa Invitational on Thursday.
Half of Allegheny's PRs were earned on the track, including three from each of the team's sprinters.
In the 100-meter dash, junior
Sha'Mar Nguyen (Converse, Texas/Judson) and sophomore
Dre'on Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y./South Park) both placed inside the top 10 in sixth and ninth, respectively. Both achieved personal-record times and were just four-hundredths of a second apart at 11.03 seconds and 11.07 seconds.
Second-year sprinter
VJ Praylor (Rochester, N.Y./Vertus Charter), who was 11th in the 400-meter dash, turned in the best time of his career at 51.35 seconds. In the mid-distance races, freshman
Tyler Biss (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) earned two top-10 finishes, including a PR in the 800-meter run at 1:59.73.
Both of Allegheny's throwers in the hammer recorded the best marks of their collegiate careers, too. Sophomores
Andre Anderson (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and
Cameron Sadler (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) were 11th and 18th, respectively, with throws measuring 48.55 meters and 40.52 meters.
