CLEVELAND -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team posted two runner-up performances at the Spartan Alumni Holiday Classic, hosted by Case Western Reserve University at the Veale Center on Saturday.
Andre Anderson (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) highlighted the Allegheny octet with a pair of second-place finishes in the weight throw and pole vault, respectively.
Anderson logged two top-10 finishes on the day. He ranked second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.32 meters, trailing only Kitar Olsen of Baldwin Wallace University (19.33 meters). His new personal record was a considerable improvement over the best throw from his freshman year, which measured only 12.88 meters. In the shot put, Anderson placed ninth out of 26 throwers at 12.55 meters, an indoor PR and the second-best mark of his collegiate career.
In the pole vault, Miller matched his previous indoor best at 4.40 meters, tying his winning mark from last year's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Championships. He placed second out of 14 in the event, behind BWU's Connor Radojcsics (4.55 meters).
Other notable performances came from sophomore
Dre'on Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y./South Park), who barely missed qualifying for the final heat in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes, and
Carter Betz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood), who began his junior year by taking fifth in the long jump at 6.40 meters.
