HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team continued its indoor season by competing in Houghton University's Highlander Invitational, hosted by the Highlanders inside the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex on Saturday.
In a meet featuring 13 collegiate teams and three running clubs, the Gators compiled 16 total top-10 finishes.
The team's lone victory came from senior standout
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock), who took the gold in the long jump for the third time in three meets to open the season. The program's all-time leader in the long jump, Moon, logged a 6.91-meter jump on his second attempt, enough to beat second-place Matthieu Brunelle of Misericordia University (6.72 meters). Moon also finished fifth in the triple jump (12.80 meters) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.30 seconds).
In the one-mile race, distance runners
Cole Jooste (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Zack Wyse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) placed back-to-back in second and third, respectively. Jooste, who was clocked at 4:37.81, was about three seconds behind the winner from Alfred State. Wyse (4:40.16) beat another Alfred State runner by 25-hundredths of a second for third.
Second-year pole vaulter
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) added a fourth-place showing. After failing to hit 3.80 meters last week at the College of Wooster, Miller surpassed 3.85 meters on his first attempt at Houghton.
First-year thrower
Cameron Sadler (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) earned a pair of top-10 finishes for the Gators. He was fifth out of 30 in the weight throw at 13.80 meters. In the shot put, Sadler logged a personal record of 12.00 meters, good enough for 10th out of 39 competitors.
