TYRONE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team began the 2024 campaign by running the four-kilometer Father Bede Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis University at B & D Acres on Saturday.
The event featured four Division I programs and only two Division III teams in Allegheny and Saint Vincent College. The Gators placed fifth out of six teams with 128 points, beating the Lakers from Mercyhurst University by 54 points. In the battle of the D-III teams, the Bearcats placed just ahead of Allegheny with 101 points.
Junior
Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford) paced the 10 Gators who completed the 4K race, as the junior placed 28th out of 82 with a time of 15:53.00. Bonson was also the third-fastest Division III athlete.
Senior
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) was only a few seconds behind, crossing the finish line in 32nd place at 15:57.80. Fellow seniors
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) nearly completed the race at the same time. Stafford, who placed 39th, was clocked at 16:12.60, while Cocca finished 41st at 16:14.60.
