USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete Release
NEW ORLEANS -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team received a trio of academic awards from the US. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the 2023 season.
Allegheny was one of 234 Division III women's cross country programs and one of seven from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) honored with an All-Academic Team award.
To qualify, teams must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers. The Gators boasted the second-highest GPA among PAC women's teams at 3.79.
Additionally,
Marrin Crist and
Nelly Stafford were both crowned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes. In order to qualify for All-Academic Athlete distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and finish in the top 25% of their respective regional championship meet.
The 2023 PAC runners-up, the Gators finished 14th of 40 teams at the Great Lakes Regional Championships. Crist set a six-kilometer personal record and placed 45th at regionals with a time of 22:07.06. Stafford, who was 67th overall, also set a new PR at the regional race with a time of 22:32.7.
