Cowen Scores Overtime Winner in Senior Day Match vs. Oberlin

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Bella Cowen (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day School) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to guide the Allegheny College field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Oberlin College in their 2024 home finale on Saturday at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

Cowen, who was honored pregame alongside fellow senior Jenna Cassani (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee), punched in the winning goal on Allegheny's 20th penalty corner of the game. It took the Gators (5-12, 5-15 NCAC) nearly 64 minutes to finally solve Oberlin (1-13, 1-9 NCAC) goalkeeper Janny McCormick, who kept the Yeowomen in the contest although the majority of the scoring chances came from Allegheny.

Cassani began the penalty corner from the left side of the goal. Her initial pass went to Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) at the top of the arc, and from there, Smith dished the ball back to Emily Jackson (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township). Jackson centered the ball towards Cowen, who deflected it inside the back post for her third tally of the season.
