MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team concluded their 2025 season on Senior Day against Wooster, defeating their North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe in double overtime, 2-1.
Before the game, the Gators honored their four graduating players:
Eva Cucinell (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster),
Taylor Fordyce (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield),
Samantha Mura (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) and
Emily Robles (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township).
Each side had opportunities in the opening half, but neither found the back of the net. The Gators owned a 7-6 advantage in shots for the 30 minutes, but the Fighting Scots earned the only four corners.
Early in the third quarter, the Fighting Scots got on the board on a close ranged shot in the 35th minute. The Gators continued to pressure the Wooster defense the rest of the frame, but entered the fourth trailing by a goal.
The pressure paid off for the Gators as they tied the game less than a minute into the fourth.
Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) setup
Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) for the goal. Smith's shot from the far side got past the goalkeeper inside the near post. It marked her third goal of the season.
In the final seconds of regulation, Smith had a shot that went just inches wide of the net as the contest went into overtime.
After the Gators fended off corners early in the extra session, Smith nearly found the back of the net again but had a pair of shots turned away. Allegheny continued to earn chances, outshooting the Fighting Scots 5-0 but the game went into a second overtime session.
Just a few minutes into the second overtime session,
Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) had a shot saved. However for the Gators,
Bryce Watford (Parkville, Md./Eastern Technical) quickly followed up and buried the rebound in the back of the net for the game winning goal.
