POWELL, Ohio -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team came away with a second-place showing after a strong performance at the 2024 Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational, hosted by the Battling Bishops on Friday night at Liberty Park.

The Gators trailed only the hosts from OWU in the team standings. The only team with three runners inside the top eight and four in the top 11, Allegheny finished the six-kilometer race with 54 points. Ohio Wesleyan earned the victory on its home course with 44 points.

The difference in the final standings came down to the fifth scoring runner. For Ohio Wesleyan, Elsa Hoam received only 13 points by placing 15th. On the other hand, Allegheny's last scoring runner was 31st and collected 29 points towards the final score.

Senior Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the way for the Blue and Gold. The senior crossed the finish line in fourth place with a 6K personal record time of 22:29.0. Fellow senior Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) finished sixth, a mere one-tenth of a second from a top-five performance, with a time of 22:30.4.

Junior Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford), who won Allegheny's home three-mile race, was eighth with a PR of her own at 22:43.3. Senior Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) was two-and-a-half seconds shy of a top-10 effort after navigating the course at Liberty Park in 22:56.9.
