GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team turned in a strong performance and placed fifth out of 21 teams at Gettysburg University's Aubrey Shenk Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Gators had the second-best team score out of the Division III teams in the race with 124 points. The only D-III team ahead of Allegheny was third-place Gettysburg, who earned 95 points on their home course.Â
Two club programs, the Georgetown Running Club and NOVA Running Club, finished first and second with 19 points and 78 points. Division I Towson University edged Allegheny by 20 points, while the Gators beat Division I St. Bonaventure University by 33 points.
Six Gators finished inside the top 50, led by
Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) in ninth and 14th, respectively. Bonson was the top D-III runner and was third out of all collegiate student-athletes with a time of 22:00.6, a new six-kilometer personal record. Crist was the third-best D-III runner at 22:14.6, just seven seconds off of her PR pace.
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) came in 34th place with a time of 23:10.8. Running the 6K course together,
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) rounded out the scoring five for Allegheny in 37th and 38th. They duo were separated by a mere one-tenth of a second.
