FAIRVIEW, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team opened the 2023 season in style, as the Gators cruised to victory in a three-way race against Division II opponents from Mercyhurst University and Gannon University on Friday evening.

Although a pair of Gannon runners finished one-two, the next five to cross the finish line were Gators. In total, Allegheny placed six inside the top 10 and collected only 25 points. The Golden Knights were second with 39 points, followed by the Lakers with 63.

The cluster of Gators who led the way included Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area), Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), and Shyann Rulander (Warren, Pa./Warren). Cocca, Crist, and Stafford each broke the 17-minute mark in the four-kilometer race. Rulander was the only first-year runner from any team inside the top 10.

Madeline Allen (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) was the sixth Gator inside the top 10, as the senior placed 10th out of 34 with a time of 17:36.80.
