EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team made its 2026 season debut just north of campus at PennWest Edinboro to compete in the Doug Watts Invitational Saturday morning.
The start of the 2026 season saw Allegheny as the lone Division III participant at the Doug Watts Invitational. Participants ranged from as high as Division I and Division II to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Nevertheless, the Gators finished fifth overall with 139 points on the day. The total allowed the Gators to edge out D-I Mercyhurst University by seven points.
Five Gators finished within the top 50, with senior
Shyann Rulander (Warren, Pa./Warren) leading the way. The two-time All-PAC Honorable Mention finished in 20:29.50, earning 16th place in the 5K race. Sophomore
Madison McGarrah (Butler, Pa./Butler) crossed the finish line next for Allegheny less than a minute later at the 21:13.90 mark. She edged out Gannon University's Makayla McLister for a hard-earned 25th place.
Sophia Shiroff (Denver, Colo./Denver East) (21:27.50),
Anne Weis (Granville, Ohio/Granville) (21:57.80), and
Gabriella Palmer (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) (22:31.6) rounded out the top 50 for the Blue and Gold, placing 36th, 41st, and 50th, respectively.
