COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Three members of the Allegheny College track and field program represented the Gators at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State University on Friday and Saturday inside Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
For the third time during the 2023 outdoor season, junior javelin standout
Jacob Boord (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished in first place while rewriting his own program record. Boord was first out of 19 competitors in the javelin, which included 10 Division I student-athletes and five Division II student-athletes. His sixth and final attempt reached 64.76 meters, which was an improvement of fifth-hundredths of a meter from his best throw at Bucknell University's Bison Outdoor Classic last weekend.
Senior
Hope Gómez (Laveen, Ariz./Valley Christian) logged her second-best javelin throw of the season on Friday, too. The only Division III thrower in the event, she finished 11th out of 24 with a mark of 35.72 meters.
On the track,
Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) ran in the 200-meter dash on Friday and the 400-meter dash on Saturday. Her 200 time of 25.20 seconds was just fractions of a second off of her record-setting pace from Bucknell, and she finished the 400 in 57.25 seconds. Toader was the second-best D-III sprinter in each race.
