GENEVA, Ohio -- Allegheny College men's track and field set nine personal records at the 2023 SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Nine different student-athletes produced a new PR, five of which were earned in the distance races.
Two of Allegheny's three entrants in the one-mile run,
Cole Jooste (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Mac Polny (Robinson, Pa./Montour), set personal records. Jooste was the first Gator to the finish line in 28th place (4:29.99), while Polny placed 40th (4:46.51). Similarly, three of the four Gators in the 3,000-meter race -
Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg),
Caleb Freeman (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth), and
Patrick Sharp (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton), recorded PRs. Lantz paced the trio in 20th place with a time of 9:11.24, followed by Freeman in 25th at 9:21.23.
The reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Track Athlete of the Week,
Stephen Cullinan (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), had a PR in the 200-meter dash (23.47 seconds). It was a busy day for the senior, who also finished 26th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.28 seconds) and 13th in the pole vault (4.10 meters).
Cullinan also teamed with Jooste,
Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson), and
Zack Wyse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) to complete the 4x400-meter relay (3:34.67).
