Women's Tennis Receives Numerous All-PAC Accolades

PAC Release

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. --
The Allegheny College women's tennis team was well represented on the 2023 All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), with seven different players earning first- or second-team recognition.

The All-PAC teams, along with this year's annual award winners and sportsmanship team selections, were decided by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Two Gators were included on the All-PAC First Team, as both Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) and Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) were rewarded for their performances at the first and second spots in the lineup. Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) and Noelle Kidd (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) were both highlighted on the All-PAC Second Team for singles. In addition, Allegheny placed three duos - Allison Riley (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) and Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical), Legrand and Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area), and Etsumi and Grydnieva - on the second team.

Legrand, a repeat All-PAC First Team selection in singles action, went 7-3 while playing No. 1, which included a 6-2 record against PAC opponents. She also won 11 doubles matches, just one shy of the team lead, and was undefeated in PAC matches with a 7-0 conference record. Legrand and Lounder teamed up five times and were victorious on four occasions. Two of those doubles wins were earned in the PAC Championship Tournament.

Grydnieva had a very successful freshman year playing in the top half of the lineup. She was 10-3 in singles matches, including a 7-0 mark at the No. 2 spot and an unblemished 6-0 conference record. Etsumi, a fellow first-year standout, paced the team with 14 singles wins and boasted an 8-0 record against PAC opposition. Together, Grydnieva and Etsumi earned doubles wins at every spot in the lineup and were 4-0 against PAC opponents.

Kidd's All-PAC Second-Team designation marks the first award of her Allegheny career. She finished the fall half of her senior season with an 11-5 overall record and a 6-1 record in conference matches. Her seven-match win streak featured a trio of 6-0, 6-0 wins against Franciscan University, Waynesburg University, and Thiel College. Kidd was also Allegheny's representative on the PAC Sportsmanship Team.

Rodriguez earned All-PAC doubles recognition for the second year in a row, while Riley collected her first postseason award. The highlight of their matches came at the Kenyon College Invitational, where they took down Otterbein University's Caitlyn Pennington Rachelle Moses, 8-3.
