MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team was edged by the University of Rochester, 4-3, in a non-conference match on the blue courts inside the David V. Wise Center on Saturday.

Gabrielle Bassette (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day School) and junior
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) won the top two singles matches. Rochester (6-5) responded and jumped back on top, 3-2, with a pair of wins at No. 4 and No. 6.
First-year
Giada Palmieri (Berlin, Germany/Paulsen Gymnasium) tied the score at 3-all with a three-set triumph over Rochester's Lilly Caldwell in the third singles match. The clinching point was earned in the No. 5 match, where Esther Wang held off
Anabel Bachman (Rogers, Ark./Bentonville) 7-5, 6-3, to secure the victory.
