GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team's championship streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon, as the Gators finished second at the 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships at the Greenville Airport.
The Gators entered Saturday's race having won the 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and last fall's PAC championship. Grove City College, however, prevented the three-peat. With 61 points, the Wolverines finished with a six-point lead over Allegheny.
Allegheny and Grove City were the only teams with all five counting runners inside the top 25 and the only teams with less than 70 points. Third-place Geneva College had 82 points, while fourth-place Washington and Jefferson had 85.
Five Gators earned All-PAC honors for finishing among the top 21 runners.
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was the only Allegheny student-athlete to receive All-PAC First Team accolades with a team-best seventh-place performance. A second-team recipient last season, Stafford ran the six-kilometer course around the airport in 23:22.54.
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) was less than a second behind Stafford, as she was eighth with a time of 23:23.09.
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) came in 11th place at 23:33.24. Both Crist and Cocca were recognized as All-PAC Second Teamers.
First-year student-athlete
Shyann Rulander (Warren, Pa./Warren) and junior
Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) were All-PAC Honorable Mentions in 20th and 21st, respectively, out of 107 total runners.
