Hassenplug Recognized as PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month

PAC Release

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. --
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) of the Allegheny College men's golf team was chosen as a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September.

Each month, the SAAC groups at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be varsity team members in their respective sports and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must also have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.

Hassenplug played six rounds during the first month of the season with three top-15 performances. The junior from North East, Pennsylvania, carded an average score of 72.2 across those six rounds. He tied for 14th place at Denison University's season-opening Ted Barclay Invitational, tied for second place at The Gauntlet at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club, and tied for 10th at Allegheny's home tournament, the 50th annual Guy and Jeanne Memorial Invitational. His two-day score of 139 (-5) from The Gauntlet ranks fifth all-time in program history.

A team captain, Hassenplug has high expectations for the 2023-24 season after winning medalist honors and PAC MVP during last year's conference championship tournament.

With an impressive 3.94 GPA, the mathematics major is a Distinguished Alden Scholar. He received PAC Spring Academic Honor Roll, Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large Team, and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar accolades in 2022-23. Hassenplug has also been inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon and Omicron Delta Epsilon honor societies.

On campus, Hassenplug is a member of SAAC, serves as the treasurer of Pi Mu Epsilon, and is the attorney general for "Why Not Us?" (WNU).
