WARREN, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's golf team finished the opening round of the 2025 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Championships on Monday with a three-stroke lead at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Winners of the last two PAC titles, the Gators began their title defense by scoring a 300 (+12) during the first of four championship rounds. Allegheny leads Grove City College (303, +15) by three strokes, while third-place Washington and Jefferson College (307, +19) sits seven back. Waynesburg University (310, +22) and Saint Vincent College (313, +25) round out the top five.
While W&J is the only team with two individuals in the top five, Allegheny leads all PAC teams with four golfers inside the top 10 on the leaderboard. Freshman
Christopher Hoffman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) is tied for fourth place, followed by senior
Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) in a tie for eighth. Junior
Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) and sophomore
Mekayl Maajid (Lahore, Pakistan/Roots Ivy International) are among the four in a tie for 10th place.
Hoffman, who fired a 1-over 73 on Monday, paced the team with three birdies. He and Maajid also logged eagles on the par-5, 495-yard 14th hole. Kochis and Bell each carded one birdie, but both led the team with 13 pars, most of which came on the back nine.
Grove City's Luke Gronbeck leads the 50-man tournament field with a 5-under 67. W&J's Matthew Morelli was the only other player under par with a 1-under 71.
