GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's cross country team was the best Division III team at Gettysburg College's Aubrey Shenk Invitational despite subpar weather on Saturday morning.
The Gators placed fifth overall, but among collegiate teams, trailed only Division I Saint Francis University and St. Bonaventure University. Allegheny managed to outrun several D-I and D-II programs, as well as regionally-ranked teams from Shenandoah University and the host Bullets.
Allegheny placed three among the top 20. Highlighting the trio was junior
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), who crossed the finish line in 14th place with a six-kilometer personal record at 22:43.1. Cocca was the third-best Division III runner at the meet while breaking the 23-minute mark for the first time as a Gator.
Fellow juniors
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) finished back-to-back in 18th and 19th place, respectively. Crist also logged a PR with a time of 22:56.3.
In total, 10 of the 12 Allegheny runners who participated in the Shenk Invitational set a new 6K PR.
