EDINBORO, Pa. --Â The Allegheny College track and field program sent three student-athletes to compete in the Green and Red Multi, a two-day event that was split between the campuses of Slippery Rock University on Saturday and Edinboro University on Sunday.
Two Gators,Â
Stephen Cullinan (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) andÂ
Matt Reynolds (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), participated in the heptathlon against several members of the Division II Slippery Rock track and field team, two of whom competed unattached. Cullinan won the event with 4,576 total points, while Reynolds placed sixth with 3,225 points.
In an excellent all-around performance, Cullinan either won or set a new personal record in each of the seven events. He was first in the shot put (10.83 meters), high jump (1.84 meters), pole vault (4.05 meters), and 1,000-meter race (2:57.38). The senior set four PRs in the high jump, 60-meter dash (7.42 seconds), 60-meter hurdles (9.35 seconds), and long jump (6.28 meters).
Reynolds, who PR'd in five events, was at his best in the pole vault. The sophomore tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 3.45 meters.
Matilda Earwood (Pitsburg, Ohio/Franklin Monroe) was Allegheny's lone entrant in the pentathlon. In her first collegiate multi, the second-year Gator battled against 11 Division II student-athletes from SRU, Edinboro, and California University of Pennsylvania.
Despite being the only Division III student-athlete in the event, Earwood's best effort came in the shot put. Her 9.41-meter throw was the fourth-best of the weekend. All of her other performances set new personal records.
