LATROBE, Pa. -- Allegheny College women's cross country fulfilled its destiny as the No. 1 team in the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason poll by capturing the 2022 PAC Championship on Saturday morning at Saint Vincent College.
The Gators, the No. 9 team in the Great Lakes Region, finished atop the team standings with 41 points, less than half the total earned by second-place Geneva College (83). Allegheny was one of only two teams in the conference with multiple runners inside the top 10, and AC was the only team to place all five scoring runners in the top 15.
Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Leuca Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) guided Allegheny to its first-ever PAC crown by placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Both recorded six-kilometer personal records, as Standish was clocked at 23:02.07 and Hanish navigated the course in 23:02.90.
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley),
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown), and
Sarah Maue (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) rounded out Allegheny's five scoring runners in eighth, 10th, and 14th.Â
Pack running helped
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora),
Eva Kerr (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe), and
Madeline Allen (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) receive All-PAC accolades. Approximately two seconds separated the trio, but all three placed in the top 21 and were tabbed All-PAC Honorable Mention.
In addition to All-PAC accolades, Allegheny head coach
Ben Mourer '07 was elected the 2022 PAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
