MEADVILLE, Pa.—Junior
Mica Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) captured her first individual title as she won the 2019 Allegheny Classic, helping the Allegheny women's cross country team to a second place finish out of six schools Saturday (Sept. 14) in Meadville.
Hanish crossed the finish line with a time of 18:24, nine seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Carnegie Mellon University captured the team title with a score of 28, seven points ahead of the Gators. Case Western Reserve University rounded out the top-three with a score of 104.
Molly Tarvin (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwest Lehigh) also finished in the top-five as her time of 19:06 placed her in fourth.
The three to five runners for the Gators finished 9
th, tenth and eleventh.
Jacelyn Alberts (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) finished with a time of 19:32 as she finished in the top ten, placing ninth.
Sarah Lucas (Charleroi, Pa./Ringgold) took 10
th with a time of 19:33, while
Hailey Stupay (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) rounded out the top-five for the Gators in 11
th-place with a time of 19:36.
The top five runners for Allegheny had a spread of 1:13, third best of the field.
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Karissa Coffield (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) were the six and seven runners for the Gators as they placed 15
th and 16
th, respectively.
The Gators are off until Oct. 5 when they compete at the Lehigh Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
