ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by a tough Case Western Reserve University squad in a Saturday matinee at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
The Spartans, ranked 20th in the nation and fourth in the ITA Central Region, improve to 4-0 with the win, while the Gators drop to 2-4 in dual meet action on the season.
In doubles play, the nation's 18th-ranked doubles tandem, Case's Surya Khadilkar and Michelle Djohan defeated the Gators'
Mikaela Pope and
Andrea Brush by an 8-1 score in the top flight, while the Gators'
Michaela Thompson and
Heidi Mueller were defeated 8-0 at the second flight. In third flight, Allegheny's
Abby Lange and
Kirstie Oravec dropped an 8-3 decision.
In top-flight singles, Brush battled to a tough 7-6 (8-6) defeat in the first set, before falling 6-1 in the decisive second set, while in the second flight, Pope was defeated by Jessica Liu, ranked 11th in the region and 44th nationally, 6-1, 6-1.
The Gators will now have a three-week respite before returning to action on Mar. 20, when they open up their spring break trip against Wisconsin-Whitewater in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
