CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Gator women's tennis team opened the 2015 portion of their schedule with a setback to Case Western Reserve, currently ranked No. 23 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III National Poll, 9-0, on Saturday night at the Cleveland Skating Club.
The doubles team of juniors
Andrea Brush and
Mikaela Pope fought back-and-forth with the Spartan quad of Nina Cepeda and Jennifer Lowe at second-flight doubles, but Case, additionally ranked fourth in the Division III Central Region, would escape with an 8-5 decision in their eventual sweep of doubles. Brush would also challenge Cepeda at No. 4 singles, but the Spartan first year was able to pick up a 7-5, 6-2 win over the Gator junior.
Junior
Sun Mo Koo fell, 6-0, 6-2, at top-flight singles as classmate
Sloane Prince dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at third-flight. Koo and Prince also would team up at top-flight doubles. Sophomore
Michaela Thompson jostled for position at No. 5 singles, but fell, 6-3, 6-4.
The Gators will next travel to Erie, Pennsylvania for a 2 p.m. match against Westminster on Sunday, Feb. 22.
