MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's tennis squad kicked off the 2014 campaign in convincing fashion, upending Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Baldwin Wallace, 9-0, at the 11th annual Nancy J. Heath Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The sweep was kicked off by the top-flight doubles pairing of juniors
Sun Mo Koo and
Sloane Prince, who defeated the top Yellow Jackets doubles pair, 8-3, in their match. Juniors
Mikaela Pope and
Andrea Brush continued the momentum with an 8-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles, as third year
Kirstie Oravec and sophomore
Michaela Thompson capped the sweep with an 8-2, third flight doubles win.
Koo started the season at top-flight singles for the Gators, picking up a convincing, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Pope earned a 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 win at second-flight as Prince won her first decision of the season convincingly, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Brush won, 6-2, 6-2, at fourth-flight as Oravec earned her first win of her junior campaign, 6-3, 6-4. Thompson closed out the Gators' 9-0 win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Gators will next travel to the Oberlin Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12.
