Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. – The Anderson Ravens from the Heartland College Athletic Conference (HCAC) used the momentum from a walk-off, elimination game win over Aurora, scoring in every inning to hand the Gators their first loss of the double-elimination NCAA Division III Angola Regional Tournament, 16-4, on Sun. May 12 at Trine University.
Senior
Stephanie Fort led the Allegheny offense, batting 1-for-4 while picking up two RBI. Sophomore
Sadie Stuart, who became the single-season home run record holder on Saturday against Aurora with her 11th of the season, scattered a team-high three hits while scoring a run.
Fellow fourth year
Nicole Rodi and sophomore pitcher
Caitlin Nealer each drove in a run while batting 1-for-3, and freshman
Allie Landowski also recorded a hit. On the mound, Nealer pitched 5.1 innings, striking out three batters. Freshman
Hannah Olenik pitched in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and striking out one batter.
The Ravens opened the scoring with runs in the first and second innings. Allegheny retaliated with a lead-off single by Stuart in the first, but were unable to score with runners on the corners and two outs in the inning. Anderson's opening salvo is the first time that Allegheny has trailed in a game since the squad's first game against Wittenberg on May 4.
Landowski led off the Allegheny third with a single to right after Anderson scored three in the top of the inning. Stuart followed with a single up the middle to put two runners onboard. On a full count pitch, Fort hit a single up the middle that brought Stuart and sophomore pinch runner
Shannen Segiel home, putting the Gators on the scoreboard.
Later in the inning, Nealer cut the Anderson lead to two, knocking another single up the middle to score Fort, closing out a three-run inning for the Gators.
Anderson tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings, holding a 7-3 lead entering the bottom of the frame. Hayden reached base on an error to lead off the Allegheny fifth and a double into left center by Rodi brought home the junior. The Ravens responded with four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh. Anderson clinched the win by holding Allegheny to no hits over the final two innings.
Earlier in the day, Anderson upended fourth-seeded Aurora, 4-3, to eliminate the Spartans one day after taking out the regional top seed and nationally-ranked No. 2 Trine, 10-6.
The two squads will battle in a winner-take-all regional championship game at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 13.
