GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team continued Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Tuesday (March 31) at Grove City, splitting the road doubleheader.
The Gators took game one 1-0 in eight innings before falling in game two 6-1.
Game One - Allegheny 1, Grove City 0 (8 innings)
Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) had a lead-off single in the second, but was left on base.
The Wolverines threatened in the third and fourth with two runners on, but the Gators were able to get out of the jam unscathed on each occasion.
Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) drew a walk to start the fifth. She moved up to second on an
Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) sacrifice bunt, but the Gators were unable to push the run across.
Once again in the sixth, Grove City put a pair of runners on, but once again, the Gators did not allow a run.
Jones tallied her second hit of the game, singling up the middle with one out in the seventh. However, the Wolverines recorded the next two outs to keep the game scoreless.
Grove City drew a walk to lead-off the bottom of the seventh. Shortstop
Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) made a tough catch to record the first out before a sacrifice bunt moved the runner up with two outs. After another walk,
Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) got the Gators out of the inning on a groundout, sending the game into extra innings.
Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit a single to start the extra inning.
Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) pinch ran for her.
Maisy Post (North East, Pa./North East) moved Myers to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) then delivered an RBI single with two outs through the left side of the infield, bringing Myers home for the game's first run.
The Wolverines hit a two-out double in the bottom of the inning, but Hulse caught a pop-up to register the final out of the game as the Gators picked up the extra inning win.
Inside the Box
- Jones had a pair of singles.
- Robinson delivered the game winning RBI single in the eighth.
- Folino singled in the top of the eighth as Myers pinch ran for her and scored the only run of the contest.
- Hulse pitched all eight innings, allowing just seven hits while striking out six for the complete game shutout.
Game Two - Grove City 6, Allegheny 1
The Gators got on the board quickly in game two, scoring in the first inning.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) singles and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Jones then drove her in for the run.
The lead stood until the third when the Wolverines plated six runs.
Jones and Kinney singled in the fourth, but we're both left on base. The Gators also produced base runners in the fifth and sixth, but were unable to overcome the deficit as they fell in game two.
Inside the Box
- Jones had two hits with an RBI.
- Phillips also had a multi-hit game.
- Robinson and Kinney both singled.
- Mackenzie Keber (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area) pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no runs.

- Allegheny is now 32-12 all-time against Grove City.
