Gators Fall to Saint Vincent on the Road

LATROBE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team fell to Saint Vincent in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road doubleheader Sunday (March 29).
 
The Gators fell in game one 6-4 and in game two 10-6.
 
Game One - Saint Vincent 6, Allegheny 4
 
The Bearcats got out to an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the first. 
 
The score remained 2-0 until the fourth when the Bearcats tacked on a run on a sacrifice fly, making it 3-0.
 
In the fifth, Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit a lead-off double. Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) pinch ran for Folino and moved up on a wild pitch. Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) drove her home on a single, getting the Gators on the board. 
 
However, the Bearcats scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to push their lead to 6-1.
 
The Gators rallied for runs with two outs in the sixth. Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) and Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) hit back-to-back singles before Folino drove the pair in, cutting the deficit to three runs. Magee followed up with a double, scoring Folino to make it 6-4.
 
The Gators kept the Bearcats off the board in the sixth, but were unable to plate runs in the seventh as they fell 6-4 in game one.
 
Inside the Box
  • Magee and Folino both had two hits with a double while driving in two runs each.
  • Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), Jones and Kinney all had singles.
  • Mackenzie Keber (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area) pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
  • Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) struck out four in five innings of work.
 
Game Two - Saint Vincent 10, Allegheny 6
 
The Gators struck first in the second. Magee doubled and was driven in on a Seneca single to center field. The lead was short lived as the Bearcats tied it up with a run in the bottom of the frame.
 
Allegheny regained the lead in the fourth. With Kinney onboard following a single, Magee hit another double to bring her in. Seneca followed up with a double of her own as the Gators led 3-1.
 
The Gators added another run in the fifth. Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) hit a two-out double and came across the plate on a Jones RBI double, extending the lead to 4-1.
 
In the sixth, Folino hit another double for the Gators. Myers pinch ran for Folino and scored on an error as the Allegheny advantage reached four runs. Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) drove in Perillo later in the inning as Allegheny's lead grew to 6-1.
 
However, the Bearcats had a big sixth inning, tallying nine runs to take a 10-6 lead.
 
The Gators were unable to make up the runs in the seventh as they fell in game two.
 
Inside the Box
  • The Gators hit seven doubles in the game.
  • Magee had a pair of doubles, driving in a run.
  • Seneca drove in two runs on two hits with a double.
  • Jones and Kinney also had multi-hit games with doubles.
  • Folino and Sharp registered a double each.
  • Robinson and Jones each had two hits and a run driven in.
  • Kennedy Stahl (Warriors Mark, Pa./State College Area) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs.

  • Allegheny is now 4-4 all-time against Saint Vincent.
