Big Hits Propel Gators to Split on Day Two of Spring Training

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. –Senior Nicole Rodi launched a home run to left field, one of two long balls hit in the sixth inning, to lead the Gators to a 5-4 win over Benedictine en route to a split on the squad's second day of spring training at the National Training Center.  The Gators dropped a 10-0 decision to Dubuque to open their Monday slate.

Sophomore pitcher Caitlin Nealer recording a four strike out, complete game performance to earn her fifth win of the season, helping her own cause by rocketing a two-run home run to left field in the sixth.  The junior shut down a late comeback attempt by Benedictine, who scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth and had the game-winning run on base before forcing a pop out to shortstop to end the game.

The two squads played to a scoreless tie through three innings.  A bunt single by Fort, her first of two hits in the second game, to put two on base after sophomore Sadie Stuart singled to lead off the inning.  Fort scored on a double play to put the Gators on the board, and a double down the left field line scored junior Halea Hayden to give Allegheny a 2-0 lead in the fourth.

Allegheny rebounded against Benedictine from a rough offensive outing against Dubuque.  Down, 6-0, after three innings, the Gators committed three errors while only recording two hits.

Freshman catcher Mikaela Morietti singled to left field to lead off the third inning and was pushed to second after a sacrifice bunt from Segiel, but Allegheny was unable to bring Morietti home to get the Gators on the board.

The Gators will return to the National Training Center on Tuesday to take on Hope at 9 a.m. before facing off against SUNY Geneseo at 11 a.m.
