Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – A four-run sixth inning catapulted the Gators to a split on the first day of their National Training Center Spring Games. The Gators defeated Manchester University, 8-4, after dropping a 5-0 decision to Amherst in the first game of the double header.
Against Manchester, the Gators jumped out to a 7-0 lead, sparked by a triple from senior outfielder
Stephanie Fort. Sophomore pitcher
Caitlin Nealer picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out 12 in the complete game effort. Nealer also went 2-for-4 from the plate, recording an RBI in the fifth.
Junior infielder
Halea Hayden tallied a team-high three RBI, putting the Gators on the board in the fifth inning with a single to the shortstop that scored a pair of runs. Hayden also stole three bases.
Freshman
Belle Mazurik kicked off the scoring in the sixth after reaching second base on a throwing error that allowed sophomore
Leah Herlocker to score. Fort's two-run triple set the stage for Hayden's second hit of the afternoon and third RBI.
Senior
Maureen Pallone and Mazurik finished the back end of the doubleheader batting 2-for-4 from the plate, helping pace the Gators to 11 team hits.
The Allegheny bats rebounded in the second game of the day after struggling offensively against Amherst. Held to two team hits, Hayden snapped the hitting slump in the fourth inning, singling to left center and advancing to third after a single by Nealer, but the Gators were unable to score and left both runners on base.
Allegheny will re-take the field at 1 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 18 against Benedictine before taking on Dubuque at 3 p.m.
