Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. - Junior
Jaymee Wallace scored three minutes into the second overtime to lift Allegheny to its third straight shutout victory, a 1-0 decision at Fredonia State.
Wallace's breakaway goal, her first of the season, closed out a back-and-forth affair in which the two teams combined for 35 shots and 14 corner kicks. Â While the Gator offense posted 21 shots, including 10 on goal, the team's defense extended its streak to 336 minutes without allowing a goal. Â
Gator sophomore
Bryn Philibert earned the win in goal in her first extended action of the season, finishing with a pair of saves over the second half and two overtime periods after relieving
Kylie Mason, who started and tallied three saves.Â
Both teams were on the attack from the start, combining for 14 first half shots. Â Mason made a trio of saves over the first 30 minutes to keep the Devils off the board, before Fredonia State goalie Hannah McGlinchey countered with four saves in the final 15 minutes of the opening stanza. Â The Gators looked to be in prime position to take the lead in the 33rd minute, but were unable to cash in, as McGlinchey made saves on shots from
Michelle Holcomb and Wallace in a 30-second span, before another shot from Holcomb sailed wide. Â
Allegheny looked to have at least one more chance to get on the board in the closing minutes of the half, but a blast from
Jessie Thiessen missed the mark before Wallace was stopped with a minute left before the intermission, sending the teams into the intermission in a scoreless tie.
The Gators seized the momentum coming out of halftime, putting together a number of sustained possessions, but were still unable to find the board despite racking up six shots over the first 20 minutes of the second stanza.  The hosts would then counter, and had their best scoring opportunity in the 62nd minute.  Philibert made a  diving save, punching the ball over the end line.  The Blue Devils would be granted a pair of ensuing corner kicks, but the Gator defense held strong, and the game remained knotted at zero with less than 25 minutes remaining.
The tide swung back in favor of the Gators in the 83rd minute, who were able to keep possession for several moments, but again failed to convert on a trio of shots, with McGlinchey making a pair of saves. Â Allegheny put together one last push in the closing minutes of regulation, but McGlinchey stopped a pair of
Niki Augustine attempts to send the contest into overtime.
Fredonia State tallied the lone shot of the first overtime period, which was saved by Philibert, before the Gators failed to convert on a corner kick with 90 seconds remaining, and the teams would go to a second extra period.
The Blue Devils went on the attack to start the second overtime, and were granted their eighth corner kick of the game just 28 seconds in, which resulted in a blocked shot deep in the box.  Moments later, Wallace won a head ball at midfield. Victoria Delzer corralled the loose ball, and sent a forward pass to Wallace, who broke through the defense and converted on the breakaway goal to end the game.Â
Seven different Gators tallied two or more shots on the evening, led by five from Wallace and three apiece by Holcomb and
Alison Buzzard. Â McGlinchey ended the night with nine saves for Fredonia State.
Allegheny (6-4-2) will now enjoy a week-long layoff, before returning to action next Tuesday, Oct. 15th, with a road match at North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin.Â
