Saint Vincent Sneaks Past Women's Soccer in Double Overtime

LATROBE, Pa. -- The sixth-seeded Allegheny College women's soccer team fell in a double-overtime battle to third-seeded Saint Vincent College, 1-0, in the first round of the 2025 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday night.

Four days after squaring off in the regular-season finale, the Gators (6-8-5) and the Bearcats (15-3-1) met again in the postseason. Like Tuesday's matchup, neither team found the back of the net in a scoreless first half. However, this time, the scoreless drought lasted more than 108 minutes into the second overtime period.

In the closing minutes of the second overtime, Saint Vincent junior striker Emma Koller used a great individual effort to secure the victory. Koller boxed out an Allegheny defender to receive a pass about 15 yards from the goal, and after taking several touches to create a little space, she spun and released a right-footed rocket into the top of the cage.

Although unable to break through for a winning goal, the Gators had numerous chances to steal the win on Saint Vincent's pitch in the first overtime. Allegheny outshot the Bearcats 4-to-2 in the period, including a header from Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) off of their first corner kick just two minutes in. Midway through the extra session, another corner led to a header from Serena Carnahan (Plum, Pa./Plum) that had its sights set on the lower left corner of the net. Alas, keeper Rilyn Warner made the biggest save of her season with a diving stop.

A few minutes later, Karley Johnson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) tried a long-range shot from nearly 40 yards out. Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) bounced another shot towards Warner as time expired in the first overtime, but it too was collected by the Bearcat goalie. Allegheny's last opportunity to score a game-winner came off the foot of Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) in the second overtime. A hard foul resulted in a 30-yard set piece, and the shot from Bender forced Warner to make another diving save along the far post.
