GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, Bobby Over, finished third overall to lead a terrific team performance by the nationally-ranked No. 15 Gators at the 2012 Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College. The nationally-ranked No. 7 Knights raced to the team title.

Allegheny's men's cross country team closed Saturday's race third on the team board, and second among Division III schools. The meet also included NCAC rivals DePauw and Wittenberg, although neither conference foe tested the Gators on this day as the teams finished 10th and 15th, respectively.

Over was once again terrific. He split 24:43 in his first 8k of the season, while finishing  behind a pair of impressive Calvin runners. Nick Kramer, who won the 2012 NCAA Championship in the steeplechase, broke the tape, while All-American cross country harrier Dan Kerr finished five seconds off Kramer's winning pace.

“It was an awesome race by our guys today,” said Head Coach Brent Wilkerson. “Finishing third overall was stunning, especially against a field that was significantly deeper than last year. Our returners continue to make great improvements, while our freshmen looked good in their first 8k. It's exactly the kind of performance I was hoping to see, and definitely a race we can build on.”

As he did last week, Kevin Edwards was the second Allegheny runner to cross the line. He finished 21st overall with a time of 25:41. Freshman Logan Steiner was exceptional in his first collegiate 8k, racing through the chute in 25:50 while finishing 26th in the individual standings.

Senior Brennan Hamilton was 38th overall on Saturday behind a time of 26:05, while Jack Denison edged teammate James Rynes for the final scoring spot. Both runners enjoyed career performances, with Denison finishing in 26:19 and Rynes navigating the course in 26:21.
