Box Score
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Junior midfielder
Ashley Lehr scored in the second minute of regulation, and Allegheny maintained that advantage en route to a 1-0 victory over DePauw on Senior Day at Frank B. Fuhrer Field. The Gators shutout the opposition for the eighth consecutive game on Saturday while establishing a program record with their 13th shutout of the season.
The victory went a long way in Allegheny's bid to wrap up the regular-season North Coast Athletic Conference championship. Improving to 5-0-2 in league play, the Gators have not allowed a goal against the conference slate and boast a five-point advantage in the points race with one game left to play. Ohio Wesleyan, which is ranked second in the conference, hosts Wooster at 7 p.m. and will need to win to keep its title aspirations alive.
In addition to the new single-season mark, senior goalkeeper
Emily Karr continues to solidify her legacy as one of the top keepers in Division III. Saturday's result marked Karr's 42nd career clean sheet, which stands as the fourth highest total in NCAA history. After assembling the seventh longest shutout streak in NCAA history last season, Karr, along with a terrific back line that includes center backs
Kira Kliment and Samantha Hoderlein, have kept the opposition off the board for 760 consecutive minutes.
The Gators wasted no time in putting the Tigers into an early hole. Ninety second into the first half, senior
Georgia Frost made a great move along the end line after beating the DePauw defense down the near side. Frost played the ball into the middle, where
Katrina Gazsi delivered a one-touch pass to Lehr who buried a clean finish for her second goal of the season.
After dominating play early, the Tigers were able to secure momentum behind some solid possession play and a few great runs. DePauw tested Karr three times during the first half, but were unable to manufacture the equalizer.
Allegheny regained its form in the second half and were able to piece together some sustained pressure in the offensive third. Both teams had chances to cash in during the second half, including a great chance by Gazsi that DePauw keeper Caroline Kerr pushed away, but there were no changes on the big board as Allegheny improved to 6-0-2 in its last eight games.
Statistically, the conference tilt was fairly even. Both Karr and Kerr finished with five saves while Allegheny closed the day with a 10-8 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corners.
