Allegheny Drops Denison to Stay Undefeated in Conference Play

Box Score

MEADVILLE, Pa. –
After being outplayed in the first half, Allegheny women's soccer quickly turned the tide in the second. The Gators scored early in the second frame before holding on for a 1-0 victory over NCAC rival Denison on Saturday at Robertson Field.

Sophomore Michelle Holcomb netted her second goal of the season in the 50th minute after coming out of a scramble in front the goal following a cross into the box. Emerging from the fray with possession, Holcomb slammed the ball into the back post for the unassisted game-winning finish.

The Gators (7-3-1, 2-0-0) outshot The Big Red (4-5-2, 0-2-0), 7-0, after halftime, while most of the action took place in Allegheny's offensive third. Sophomore Emily Byers, who scored her first goal of the campaign on Thursday, nearly scored twice in the second half on Saturday, although Denison net minder Andrea Karl came up with the save.

In the opening period Emily Karr, who finished with three saves en route to her third consecutive shutout, made a sensational stop in the 29th minute with a diving save on Maddy Regan's close-range attempt. The Gators were out-shot, 4-2, in a first half marked by high winds and driving rain.
