SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Allegheny women's tennis team fell 9-0 to the No. 44-ranked squad in NCAA Division II, Slippery Rock, on Tuesday. The Rock is also ranked third in the Atlantic Region in D-II.
Along with its team rankings, Slippery Rock also has a number of individually-ranked players. In the latest Atlantic Region rankings, Laura Handy was sixth, Sara Lynch 12th and Dunja Drmac 15th. Drmac and Handy also combined for the No. 3 doubles team in the Atlantic.
Handy won the first singles match against Allegheny's
Lauren Kristofco, 6-1, 6-1. At second singles, Lynch defeated
Sara Longo, 6-1, 6-2, while at third singles, Drmac was victorious against
Elyse Schmitt, 6-1, 6-1.
The Gators' fifth singles player, Deb Landau, went the distance against Jessica Hilborn before losing in a super breaker, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-5.
Allegheny will be in action again on Tuesday, Apr. 13, when it hosts Grove City at 4 p.m.
