BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Allegheny women's tennis team continued President' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at Geneva Monday (Sept. 22), defeating the Golden Tornadoes 7-0.
The win moved the Gators to 4-0 in conference play.
The Gators started the evening with a doubles sweep.
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) and
Gabrielle Bassette (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day School) collected a close 7-6 (7-5) win at first doubles. The second doubles team of
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) and the third doubles duo of
Adriana Navarro (Distrito Central, Honduras/DelCampo School) and
Giada Palmieri (Berlin, Germany/Paulsen Gymnasium) each won their matches 6-2.
In singles action, Bassette won 6-1, 6-4 at first singles while Palmieri captured the second singles flight 6-2, 6-0.
Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at fourth singles.
Grydnieva, Ellenberger and Lounder all won their singles matches to finish with two wins on the day.
