GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's golf team climbed two spots on Sunday to finish the season-opening Ted Barclay Invitational at the Denison Golf Club in 12th place.

Although the Gators found themselves in 14th place at the end of Saturday's first round, the Blue & Gold shaved three shots off of their second-round score. Meanwhile, Muskingum University and Franklin College logged the two worst rounds of the weekend, allowing the Gators to leapfrog both teams with a two-day total of 619 (+51). Allegheny also ended one stroke shy of Shawnee State University in 11th place.

The top of the standings featured strong performances from John Carroll University and Wittenberg University. JCU was the only team to score below par with a 7-under 277 on Saturday. The Blue Streaks won the invitational with a 2-under 566, nine shots ahead of the runners-up from Wittenberg. 

Sophomore Christopher Hoffman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) paced the Gators by tying for 36th place out of 89 competitors. All four of his birdies came on the back nine, and on both days, he birdied the 369-yard 18th. He was even on the back nine on Saturday en route to the team's best round of the weekend at 74 (+3).

The next three Gators – Gasparo Porco (Butler, Pa./Knoch), Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose), and Caleb Occhino (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) – all tied for 53rd. Porco parred 22 holes, a team best. Bell and Occhino had the team's best second-round scores at 5-over 76.
