STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --
A strong first round guided the Allegheny College men's golf team to a ninth-place performance at the Toftrees Invitational, hosted by Penn State Altoona at the Toftrees Golf Resort in State College on Sunday and Monday.

Christopher Hoffman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Caleb Occhino (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) earned top-25 finishes, and both ended Sunday's round with sub-par scores. Hoffman was par or better on all 18 holes at Toftrees with birdies on the par-5 second and par-3 sixth holes. His 2-under 70 was tied for the best round of his collegiate career. Occhino added a 1-under 71 with a team-high six birdies. He was the only Gator with a birdie on the back nine on Sunday.

Both Gators ended the first round inside the top five, before placing seventh and 25th, respectively. Hoffman followed up his 70 with a 4-over 74 on Monday, tying for seventh with an even 144. Hoffman added a 78 (+6) and was one of 10 golfers tied for 25th place with a cumulative 149 (+5).

Allegheny's biggest mover during the second round was Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose). The senior, who carded birdies on four of the last five holes on the back nine, used a 1-over 73 to jump 14 spots into a tie for 44th.

Charlie Wilkerson of Randolph-Macon College took home medalist honors with a remarkable 10-under 134. He collected two eagles and eight birdies and finished with a two-stroke lead over Justy VonLehmden of John Carroll University. JCU won the team trophy with a two-day score of 561 (-14) and an 11-shot lead over Randolph-Macon.
