PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- Following an excellent performance at the season-opening Allegheny Invitational, the Allegheny College women's tennis team swept the first round of weekly awards from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
The PAC selected
Adriana Navarro (Distrito Central, Honduras/DelCampo School) as the first Player of the Week for the 2025 season, while
Gabrielle Bassette (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day School) was named the Newcomer of the Week.
Navarro led all Gators with a perfect 6-0 record over the weekend. She won all three of her singles matches against opponents from Baldwin Wallace University and Oberlin College in consecutive sets. In doubles action, the sophomore teamed with senior
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) for a trio of victories. Navarro and Lounder combined to win 18 of 19 games played with two shutouts.
In her collegiate debut, Bassette was near perfect with a 5-1 overall record. Like Navarro, Bassette was unbeaten in three singles matches, highlighted by a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory over Eliza Verstappen from Division II Walsh University. Her only doubles loss came in a close 7-5 matchup against a duo from Walsh. Alongside
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), the first-year product from the Sunshine State earned a hard-fought 7-6 (2) win over the Oberlin team of Stella Kollmansberger and Scarlett Kingston.
Navarro and Bassette will look to continue their winning ways in the 2025 PAC opener on Wednesday, September 10, when the Gators travel to Westminster College for a 4:30 p.m. showdown.
