FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Allegheny men's swimming team competed at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational Friday-Saturday (Nov. 21-23).
Overall, the men scored 249 points to finish in sixth.
Alongside the host Blue Devils, the Gators competed against Brockport, Hartwick, Pitt Bradford, Penn State Behrend, Alfred State and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Saint Vincent at the event. Penn State Behrend won the event with 1,930.5 points.
Sam Kohler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) led the way with three top-eight finishes. He placed seventh in both the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.84 as well as the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:37.07. His third top-eight finish came in the 100 butterfly, taking eighth with a time of 54.71.
Christian Habusta (Erie, Pa./Fairview) scored points for the Gators in three races. His top finish came in the 100 backstroke, taking 19th overall. He also carded 21st place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Ryan Owen (Weirton, W. Va./Weir) had his top individual finish in the 200 breaststroke, taking 11th with a time of 2:26.39. He also placed 14th in the 100 breaststroke and 23rd in the 500 freestyle.
Oscar Zúñiga (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Potosino Marista) finished 14th in the 200 breaststroke and 17th in the 100 breaststroke.
The Gators also combined to take 12th in the 200 freestyle relay as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays.
