HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Allegheny College's jumpers led the women's track and field team to a strong showing at Houghton University's Highlander Invitational inside the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Two of Allegheny's three wins were earned in the jumps, while the Gators combined for six top-five performances in those events.
Leading the way for the Gators was the duo of sophomore
Aubryanna Snyder (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and first year
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair). Snyder was victorious in the triple jump with a mark of 10.29 meters, 0.27 meters better than the runner-up from Division II Daemen University. For the second week in a row, Ellenberger won the long jump with a personal record. She cleared 5.39 meters on her first attempt, the second-best long jump in program history.
Snyder also placed third in the long jump at 4.99 meters, while Ellenberger was fifth with a PR in the pole vault at 2.75 meters. Sophomore
Corinne Inkley (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) was Allegheny's top pole vaulter, tying for second place at 3.20 meters. In the high jump, first year
Megan Zimmerman (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) took third by clearing 1.45 meters on her second try.
Senior thrower
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) earned Allegheny's other victory in the shot put. After SUNY Oneonta's Mackenzie Lawrence hit 11.87 meters on her fifth try, Miller tossed her sixth and final throw 11.89 meters to secure the victory. It was an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark, one of two the Gators recorded at Houghton.
On the track,
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva),
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and
Logan Wagner (Woodville, Ohio/Oak Harbor) placed second, forth, and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Cocca and Tetlow then joined
Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Shyann Rulander (Warren, Pa./Warren) for a runner-up effort in the 4x400-meter relay with a combined time of 4:23.23.
